SEMPORNA, SABAH – A morning fire razed twenty-two homes here in Kampung Simunul leaving at least 100 people homeless.
The 11.00am fire is believed to have grew from a single house and rapidly destroyed about 0.4 hectares of the neighborhood.
District Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) chief, Faizul Hizam, said 19 personnel including support from Kunak and Semporna’s floating fire station set off upon receiving the 11.13am distress call.
“Offensive firefighting strategies managed to contain the spread by 1.11pm,” he said in a statement.
Tawau FRD forensics are still investigating the exact cause while estimating total losses.
