Faulty Brakes Kills Three, Leaving Four Orphans

PAPAR, SABAH – A tow truck driver pulling a van from Keningau to the city died with half his family in a downhill crash along Kilometer 42 of the Kimanis-Keningau road here last night.

The woman and her twelve year old daughter were ejected from the vehicle when the family of seven crashed into a cliff.

Papar police chief DSP Batholomew Umpit said faulty brakes are believed to be the cause of the 10pm tragedy.

“As a result, four of the couple’s children aged 4 to 15 years-old were hurt. They have been sent to the ICU…

“The 40-year-old husband was pinned to the driver’s seat and died of internal injuries,” he said.

The local Fire and Rescue Department were also at the scene to remove the victim.

Batholomew said the case is being treated as Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
