KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – A woman is traumatized after a neighbour from her housing area here in Bukit Padang broke in and molested her yesterday.

The victim who lived alone was getting ready for work at about 6 am when she was choked from behind by the male suspect.

City crime chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the man covered her mouth as he dragged her into one of the rooms.

“She punched the victim in her eyes and strangled her to stop the loud cries for help…

“This went on briefly until the man smashed her head against a wall,” Zaidi detailed.

However, the woman managed to escape through the main door before another neighbour caught on the commotion.

The suspect had fled through a window after the neighbour went inside the house to check. The victim was calling the police during this time.

“As a result, the victim sustained injuries to her neck, head, knees and elbows defending herself,” said Zaidi.

Six hours later, police traced and arrested the 29-year-old suspect in the very area.

Forensic analysis retrieved two DNA samples from a door knob and the floor.

“The suspect had urinated in front of the victim’s room. A pair of gloves and a screwdriver were also found at the scene…

“The suspect confessed his intentions of only robbing the place but turned into something worse when he saw the victim,” he said.

Criminal records show the suspect was previously convicted for drugs and trespass.

The man is now remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 354 and 323 of the Penal Code for assault and outraging modesty.
