KINABATANGAN, SABAH – A primary school teacher collapsed and died in a trek turned tragedy at the Tawai waterfalls in Entilibon, Tongod here on Saturday.

Jahir Korotok, 29, set out in a group of ten about 8 am. Four hours later the SK Linayukan educator fell unconscious.

Fire and Rescue services said they retrieved the victim’s body about 4.8 kilometers into the trek.

“It was a 150 kilometer rush from the Kinabatangan firestation. We arrived about 2pm,” said its chief Nurul Azlan Shah Jamaluddin.

“Cooperation with the Forestry Department staff and the group’s tour guide managed to bring the body at the entry point about 5.57pm,” he added.

Kinabatangan police chief Superintenden Dzulbaharin Ismail meanwhile when contacted said the body has been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

“The case is classified as sudden death as no criminal elements were detected,” he said.
