TAWAU, SABAH – There is no issue of people affected by the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in 20 localities in the district being sidelined from receiving the food basket assistance, said Tawau Municipal Council President Arnold Joibi.
According to him, a total of 8,572 food baskets have been distributed to the affected localities involving 7,372 household heads since April 1.
He said a total of 540 food baskets have been handed out in Kampung Muhibbahraya/ Jalan Morell locality where six individuals were arrested for trying to hold a demonstration claiming their relatives there did not receive the assistance.
Arnold said the EMCO had been extended in three localities namely Kampung Muhibbahraya/Jalan Morell, Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan.
Additional food baskets would be supplied to these localities beginning Monday (Apr 26).
“The MPT is constantly monitoring the situation and sending aid in affected areas,” he said, adding the MPT movement was subjected to the strict SOP as Tawau had been consistently recording highest number of new COVID-19 cases.
