PENAMPANG, SABAH – The return of dragons and lions signifies Sabah’s winning battle against COVID-19.
With relaxed health protocols in transition to the endemic phase, Executive Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC), Datuk Dexter Lau said the chinese community may finally ‘celebrate’ Chinese New Year.
“Society should not remain stagnant at the stage of COVID lockdown. Instead, the community should work together towards realising a greater future for the next generation…
“The government is ready to push forward more vigorous economic strategies, with the aim to continue our state’s development and achievements.
“Together, the State will be able to embark on a brand-new chapter post-covid,” he said.
Dexter was officiating a consecration cemermony for 19 dragons and 46 lions for the Wei Wu Sabah Association at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah hall here yesterday.
He said that after two years the traditional dance may now perform adhering to strict standard operating procedures.
“One month from now we will usher in the year of the tiger and for those celebrating it is something we have missed out on.”
He explained that The Dragon is an auspicious hallmark the Chinese and their culture.
“The dragon signifies divine favour, good fortune and wisdom…
“I am confident that today’s auspicious ceremony marks a hopeful future for our Chinese community, for Sabah as a whole, and across all segments including our family, our district, career progression, political stability, economy growth, education and culture advancement,” he said.
Meanwhile Dexter urged the younger generation to be more curious of their ancestral roots and therefore honoring them.
In the age of fast internet he advised youths to talk about it with their parents instead of looking it up online.
“Take it as a point of discussion and now that we are nearing the chinese new year its a good time to have it…
“Every culture has their own customs and one that I truly encourage practicing is honoring your parents and ancestors,” he said saying its a belief he held since a young boy.
