KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – The Sabah Health Department carried out its first rural outreach and house-to-house outreach vaccination programme in rural areas under purview of City Hall.
Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr Roland Chia Ming Shen said that the outreach programme was held at SK Talungan, Telipok bordering Tuaran.
Dr Roland commended efforts by Sabah Health Department, Ministry of Health, Community Development Committees of N18 Inanam and N16 Karambunai for successfully organizing the first vaccination outreach program here on Friday.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Talungan, Telipok is estimated to be about 40 kilometers drive from the city centre and is located on the Crocker Range.
“A total of 1,126 villagers from eight villages who came to the vaccination centre as early as 7am…
They were from Kg Bunsut, Kg Talungan , Kg Natai, Kg Lawa Mondou, Kg Tombongon, Kg Seri Melidan , Kg Tampulan and Kg Kebayau,” said Dr Roland.
“The team from Sabah Health Department led by Dr Suhaila Osman, a Public Health Specialist, began their journey as early as 7 am and worked till late evening, staying overnight in SK Talungan to continue the next day to finish vaccinating the villagers…
“There was also a mobile team that went house to house to ensure the bed-ridden and elderly patients were vaccinated as well,” he added.
Also part of the team were Datuk Yakub Khan, State Minister of Science and Innovation who is also Karambunai Assemblyman, People Development Unit Leader of N18 Inanam Datuk William Majimbon and People Development Unit Leader of N16 Karambunai Matlan Taman to give moral support to the villagers and the team from the State Health Department.
