LAHAD DATU, SABAH – A fishing vessel here may see its licence revoked after caught fishing too close to shore for the second time.
Marine Police caught up with the headstrong company near the shores of Sakar Island yesterday during routine patrols dubbed Op Benteng Covid-19.
District Marine Police Deputy Commanding Officer ASP Sudirman Latip Karim said fishing activities less than two nautical miles from shores are strictly off limits.
“The case is being investigated under Section 8 (b) of the Fisheries Act, as was their previous charge…
“Following that rule an RM 500 compound was issued for their first offence. Their following offence will now be RM 1,000 and the third and final one at RM 1,500,” he said.
The vessel was detained at the Marine Police headquarters here for further course of action.
