KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – A contractor and his buddy were arrested in possession of an alleged 73.63 grams of ecstasy powder during a COVID-19 traffic police snap check at Kopungit Bypass here last night.

Both men in their 40s were in a Toyota Fortuner heading towards the roundabout near the State Mosque when ordered to a halt.

City police chief, ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said officers spotted a pouch at the dashboard compartment during further inspections on the vehicle.

“One of the suspects claimed it was his, and upon opening it, revealed a silver sachet containing what is believed to be ecstasy in powdered form…

“Both men were immediately detained and the substance taken in as evidence,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, drugs tests on the two found them positive for a slew of synthetic drugs.

“Tests came back positive for Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Ketamine, and Benzodiazepine,” detailed Zaidi.

He said neither has a criminal history but investigations continue to determine the drug source.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
