KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – A 50-year-old woman here was conned out of RM 6,050 by a purported travel agent promising a job in Australia.

Sabah Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CID) Chief, Supt G Moses Govindarajoo said the money was wired into two separate accounts.

“The first transfer was on 8 July amounting RM 2,800 and the next one, amounting to RM 3,250 on 26 July…

“A male suspect who used a local alias said the deposits were for visa and plane tickets purposes,” he said.

The victim only felt cheated after Malaysian Airlines confirmed the ticket sent to her was invalid and acted to lodge a police report at the Commercial CID department of the Kota Kinabalu Station.

Police are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

G Moses meanwhile advised the general public to be extra cautious when dealing with strangers on the internet.
